The 100 Day Project

I am sure you have come across the “100 Day Challenge” usually a challenge to become active. This was especially popular during the long lockdowns of Covid.

The 100 Day Project is slightly different. This is a creative project. Even the word “project” is a tad misleading.

The basis of this project is that being creative every day helps a person, physically mentally and emotionally.

Now before you say “I am not creative” or “I don’t craft” can I give you some suggestions? There are so many ways to being creative.

Listening to a piece of music and letting the nusic take you out of your environemnt to somewhere elae is creatively listening. It is what most composers, songwriters and musicians want of a listerner. Then on your phone, tablet, laptop or an old fashioned notebook take a note of the song, piece of music , who performed and who composed it.

Perhaps poetry is something you actually enjoyed reading but were turned off at school either because you had to recite it from memory and the fear of getting it wrong made you totally forget it. Or perhaps it was part of the “Leaving Cert” and the analysis took the beauty of it away? How about now reading a poem or a verse out loud every day. Take ten minutes to hear poetry. It could be your own poetry. Again record it in some way so that looking back you have a record of that poem which really resonated. Don’t have a poetry book? Check out your local library.

Perhaps buildings and structure are yor “thing” how about photographing the one structure daily or a different structure every day.

Then there are what I would call the traditional crafts. Knitting, crochet, sewing with its myriad of techniques and not forgetting paper crafting and it’s different techniques. If you are already a knitter for example how about doing and learning a different format of knitting. Or perhaps knitting something differnt to your normal knit using a different style or a differnt stitch or two. Part of the creativity is choosing a pattern, choosing different yarn and producing something different.

Perhaps the programme “The Pottery Throwdown” has been your must watch over the last few weeks. Perhaps now is the time to see about taking it up. Have you seen mosaic work? Would that be something you are interested in?

How about Art? Don’t paint but love art how about looking at the virtual tours which are aviable from art galleries all over the world.

Have the glass windows in churches or other buildings entranced you over the years. Perhaps that is something to look into? Perhaps it is the history of the window or the artists who actually made those beautiful masterpieces.

Have you thought about the lego you made as a child? Lego is incredibly creative. How about that model railway you have always wanted to build? Perhaps now is the time.

Perhaps you have always wanted to write this could be your time. Have you a journal or a notebook you were given as a present? Perhaps now is the time to take it out and write a series of words every day.

Being creative is allowing the creative part of our brain to be active for 10 minutes a day or 5 hours a day. This project is all about making time and allowing yourself to be creative and keeping a record of it.

I like to have a few things on the go but I am going to have music in my day. I had forgotten the joy that music gave me. Yesterday I randomly took out a CD, yes a real CD, played part of it. The CD was music byTelemann, I randomly chose number 10 and heard part of a horn concerto. This morning I listened to a piece by the Eagles on “Melodies from Michael” on Facebook.. On both occassions I was transported to another world.

I hope you will consider taling up the 100 day crative project. If you do I would love to hear about it.

Have a good week.
