Rest

I came across the following quote “rest is the sweet sauce of labour.” This is a quote from Plutarch the greek phiospher and historian.. He is recognised for the developement of the essay and historical writing.

Rest being a necessity of work has not really been a necessary part of my life until the onset of arthritis. Even having other autoimmune illnesses never gave rise to me thinking of rest. Arthritis though has certainly changed my thinking to the necessity that is rest. Rest is not the same for everyone and I have had to learn what rest is for me.

I grew up in a time when “devil makes work for idle hands” was a foundation to life. Now I am learning that those areas of my body with arthritis will scream blue murder if I don’t rest. That doesn’t mean that there is no movement but it is a definitive restricted movement which will help the joints without the pressure. However there is that voice saying that I should be up and doing.

Life is definitely a continuous learning experience.
