A New Old Word

One of my favourite pursuits is reading. I get really excited when I find a new author who bringsme into another world. My preferable world is cosy mysteryand it is amazing the different worlds that this genre inhabits.

Today Susie Dentin her book “Guilty by Definition” brought me to the world of lexicography. I love to see where words especially those not used too much come from. Thus I was in heaven with this book.

I cam across a word which is no longer in use “apricity”. It just sounded lovley and then the definition”” the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day”. Yes this is one word which I am going to try and use more often. One word instead of eight words. I love awinter’s day when the sun just gives that bit of heat which is so unexpected. It is like an unexpected gift.

Apricity.
